A few days back, I have donwloaded Firefox 3.5.6. Ever since, I have enromous problems using the internet. I keep getting the message that the server cannot be connected, pages take a long time to load, if at all. It requires clicking and refreshing an URL several times for it to load. Closing the program and opening it again, going offline and going online again. Similar problems now occur with Internet Explorer as well.
Does anyone else have similar problems? Why is this happening? What can I do to be able to use the internet normally again?
Thank you for your suggestion. I did as you instructed. I am not sure it helped.
It's as if the browser has spells of dysfunction, followed by periods of proper function.
The same with IE. And it all began as I downloaded the new Firefox.
The Network Diagnostics for Windows XP on my computer says it did not detect any problems with my internet connection. But I keep getting the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" or Firefox says "unable to connect to server" - and this happens with bookmarked (and thus verified) links as well.
Press windows key and R key simultaneously (it will open run dialog box) Type cmd in that dialog box (it will open a command prompt window) At the prompt type following command: ping www.yahoo.com (or whatever website you are trying to access)
Thank you, but there seems to be no rule - the problem does not persist with a particular website or a page on it. For example, sometimes, I can access Gmail or Pariprashnena, sometimes I can't. Waiting a while and refreshing the link usually makes it work.
I pinged a website as you suggested - how do I copy-paste the output?
I took a printscreen and attached it. The programs are in Slovene, though. It seems the pertinent information might be about the packages sent and received: sent=4, received=4, lost=0. Minimum time in ms 44, maximum 45.
I pinged bbtedit.com, after I finally managed to access it via a link provided by a Google search. There were again no loses, but it took much longer than the one before.
I temporarily disabled the firewall, I also hacked Firefox as suggested - no change.
It appears there is a virus on the machine and the anti-virus program can't help against it.
The problem is that this is a preloaded computer, so I don't have the Windows cd's for it. I'll have to wait until after the holidays and see what I can do then.
Agree with Rasa -- for every problem there should be a radical solution!! It is obvious -- you should stop using Sloveniyan windows, it is illegal, nobody in Solveniyia has a legal copy of windows. Better install Mac system on your pc computer, you will have no problems.
