Other: Is Global Warming true?

Global warming is an acknowledged fact. (as far as I understand) The question is whether it is happening because of natural earth warming & cooling cycles (natural causes) or because of man made causes (extra greenhouse gases)

From the Srimad-Bhagavatam we learn that the universe is like a tree with the roots being upwards. The pole star which is situated within the Asking question starts constellation is the root. The universe is pivoting around the pole star. That is one movement. The second movement is that the sun is revolving around the universe, or as if it were going around the tree. That is the second movement. The sun is not fixed. If this is proved, then their whole scientific theory collapses. According to them, the stars are all suns. The stars may have the same composition as the sun but they are not suns. The Brahma-samhita says that the sun is the king with unlimited light and temperature. The Srimad-Bhagavatam sublime literature describes all these things and it was written five thousand years ago. And they say that five thousand years ago there was no civilization. That Srimad-Bhagavatam has this information proves that Indian civilization is the oldest civilization.

Yajurveda at the outset spoke," dyaou shanti, Antariksha shanti, Aapah shanti, Vanaspatai shanti, oushadhaya shanti..............." i.e. let there be peace in the sky, let there be peace in the universe(environment), let the water be harmless, let there be useful vegetation.........". This clealy asks us not to carry out any such activity by which the environment is disturbed. Not only this, even the first mantra of Shri Ishopanishad also says," Ishawasyamidam sarva yatkincha jagatyam jagat........" i.e. Everything in the universe belongs to the Lord and we have no right to damage/destroy/deteriorate this.......!
But because of the rampant industrialization, the above are not being followed.It has been scientifically and experimentally proved that the green house gases,GHG, i.e.CO2, CO, CFC, CH4 etc.add to the warming of the atmosphere which are produced by the industries. That is why Al Gore, on bealf of Bush refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol which had asked for a very modest requirement: some useful objectives in the year 2025. This would have affected their industries. USA is the largest contributor of CO2 evolution in the world(almost 25% of the entire).
In view of the warming of the atmosphere, the global warming results. This in fact shall affect the globe in the long run which is not arguable at all.

The rampant industrialization in the globe has added to the poliution in the atmosphere. Evolution of excessive CO2, CO, SOx, NOx, suspended particulate matter which results into breathing and lung problems, ailments like asbestosis, cementosis etc, effluent pollution because of acidic and alkalyne discharges and soil contamination because of solid waste and oil soaking land are resultant cause of industrialization.It is true that the developed countries are in a better position to control the same but there cannot be two opinions that the damage is being done.
I would request bhaktas, devotees and contributors to this forum whether they agree to the above.As most of these contribute to the cause of global warming.
Veda Prabhu- Icebergs are mostly prevalent where the surface water is quite cool and it is true that it is slowly reducing.Glaciers are melting slowly and the hills are becoming barren( Himalayas and Andes).

By not following the orders of the Founder Acarya,we are also increasing global warming!

1.By not creating self-sufficient farms,where there will be no need of any cars or tractors,insecticides,pesticides,plastics,modern drugs,modern textiles etc.All such activities are causing high pollution,diseases,destruction of environment as we blend into the "normal " activities of karmis,sending children to "normal"schools where they will learn to be doctors,IT technicians etc and so there'll never be true brahmanas who can guide society as wished by His Divine Grace.

As we still drink polluted milk and milk products[even contaminated with beef fat,that is being offered to Deities in sacred Vrndaban] our intelligence will never be improved,due to absence of pure organic milk,supplied by protected cows.

If such instructions are not followed in an emergency, soon,all water will be contaminated[poisoned by industries] as well as all products from earth,while Mother nature will die and fire will destroy all remaining,thus causing hellish hot weather for all,except for those who have created oasis of peaceful self-sufficient communities....
Actually,such hellish conditions have already happenned in India,China where polluting industries are allowed,whereas prohibited in Europe and USA.

Are we really? I'm not so sure.... We may come back in a hellish polluted world,and suffer even more! Some may take birth in self -sufficient communities,where life will be more tolerable... Srila Prabhupada's order: create such villages and live there! Cities are bound to be destroyed or hellish to live in!

I agree with Govindas108's comments -- the more we deviate from the ideal way of living -- the living that Lord Krishna has in mind for us -- to live simply and grow spiritually ---- the more difficult will it become for us to lead our imperfect life. On the other hand, if we follow what Prabhupada recommended, the earth will become the Vaikuntha.

Lord Krishna himself appeared in a small village and lived a simple yet joyful villager's life. He showed us that you do not need cities, huge buildings, modern amenities, etc. to live a joyful life -- the sweetness and satisfaction that lies with simple living is matchless.

Now, after spoiling all the farms with chemicals, people are turning towards organic and local farming -- as their health problems have increased by consuming chemical-laden foods. I recently came across a website http://www.realmilk.com that promotes milk in its most original form -- unhomogenized and unpasteurized, obtained from cows that are grass-grazed.

While all these new developments are good -- this is the ascending process. After experimenting with things, we are realizing that this is right, that was wrong. It will take us way too long to exhaust all the possible ways of living before we will come to realize and accept the ideal way of living that Prabhupada recommended -- and by then it will be too late -- we won't have the resources left over to even pursue that simple living.

So, what shashtras recommend, what Prabhuapda suggested, and what Lord Krishna himself showed to us is the perfect knowledge of life descended to us from Lord Krishna -- that is the ultimate and only solution to the present day crisis.

Hare Krishna Gadai. I am not living in a rural village, but intend to soon. Unlike you who was blessed with rural life to begin with, I spent a major portion of my life in cities. Also, I came in contact with Krishna Consciousness seven years ago only. I agree with you that people will need to set up examples for others to follow. Even as we talk, the rural communities that Iskcon has set up in several places around the world are excellent examples to follow.

Btw, not too distant in future, people will be forced to live in settings where production and consumption are localized as the world is going to run out of gas. I hope that the scientists do not find another way to run the vehicles and continue to pollute the environment.

We have to learn to see through the eyes of Sastra. Basically , Prabhupada considered the scientists to rascals. They may present some theory as conclusive but after a while this will be amended and another "conclusive " theory will be presented.
We have to understand that the demigods are controlling the conditions on this planet. If things are unfavorable, it is because the demigods are not pleased. In short , we are being punished. Scientists may try to explain all the in and outs of this unfavorable situation but they do not really know the solution. If human society pleases the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then automatically all the demigods will be satisfied.

Personally, I find the the apparent higher temperatures are a benefit to my service. The warmer fall temperatures give me more time outdoors to pursue my various srevices to Srila Prabhupada. We have had no problems with insufficient rain where I reside. So I question whether these two items(temperature and rainfall) are absolutely inter-related. The demigods can easily supply rain wherever they like regardless of the average climatic temperatures. The whole Global Warming hysteria smacks of Chicken Little. Has everyone heard this story about Chicken Little who was hit on the head by an acorn and concluded that the Sky was falling?

Regarding the Demigods: One should study Bhagavad gita Chapter 7 verse 23
Bhagavan Sri Krisna clearly states that those who worship the Demigods are of small intelligence. In this (Kali) age, one need only perform Sankirtan Yajna and everything will be smoothed out. My personal conviction is that the natural climate of this planet is much warmer than it has been over the last few thousand years. Samkirtan is now warming it up and neutralizing the sinfull reactions that have kept so cold. The demonic persons are now trying to exploit this by creating global taxes based on bogus theories.

Gadai Prabhu. While you think that Global warming is a good thing and is a result of our Samkirtana -- try living in a small apartment in New Delhi during summers especially when there is no electricity -- you will get the idea. If the global warming is a good thing, are we saying that people who lived in earlier ages like Treta yuga were more unfortunate than the people in Kaliyuga who are less pious than them? Out of the whole world population, what percentage is performing Samkirtana Yagna and how many are committing horrible sins in order to satisfy their senses? The demigods while they look at the good things, they are also looking at what else in the world is going on. I think that they are indicating to all these other people to change their materialistic ways of living and live the KC way. Demigods are great devotees of Lord Krishna -- so, what they are doing is also Lord Krishna's wish.

Also, it's not the Global warming is warming up the whole year -- what's happening now is that winters are more chilly and summer are hotter -- also, the span of the extreme (winter or summer) is more than ever before.

Most pious persons in the West, accept God as a person. They may be sinful but they are not so offensive as the Mayavadis who deny the Personality of Godhead. Much of the suffering in India is due to fact that a large % of the population is strongly influenced by the impersonal conception of the absolute. It is not surprising that the demigods make things uncomfortable for these rascals. Unfortunately , those who live near and amongst them, must suffer also.

Gadai Prabhu: Just because you believe that God is a person and keep committing sins does not take you off the hook. Sin is a sin -- in fact, for a devotee, a sin committed with the knowledge that doing such and such is a sin is a bigger sin. So, based on this argument, people in the west or (in particular America) should be punished more severely -- and that is what is happening perhaps (sarcastic grin) -- so many cancer patients and diabetics all around the country -- just look up the stats -- that's the punishment for hiding inside airconditioned buildings all the time and making others suffer because of that!

There is Mayavad is India because that was spread around as per Lord Krishna's plan. Lord Buddha was an incarnation of Lord Vishnu himself -- what to say about other gurus in the Mayavadi disciplic succession. Now is the time for Krishna Consciousness to spread all around -- you won't even notice when the number of devotees in India will surpass that in the western world -- the movement is already caught up there...

Everyone I talk to all around the world tells me that the weather where they are has changed dramatically since they were children. Here where I am we are running out of water. it has not been raining anywhere near our dams for a long time.
