Any idea why Prabhupada chose "16" rounds?

Is there any significance for the number 16 there?

Example: 108 represents the 108 upanishads. Similarly is there any reference with the number 16 scripturally?

I think that is just a multiple inverse of 64, due to our dumbness and Srila Prabhupada's unprecedented mercy

I think he said 64 in the beginning but devotees got so depressed that he said 32. Devotees were still depressed so he said 16 MINIMUM.

Anyway Bhaktisiddhanta S.T. said that anyone who does not chant 64 rounds is in maya so if you want you can chant more than 16.

i know some devotee of have heard of him sometimes could not leave the japa in the entire day, and he sometimes do 32.. how can be 64 rounds - My God !

even the 108 are from the garland of gopis, is beyond the shastra... but such a number must have been developped out of practice to beggin with i had seen 16 are such a relieve for me.. at time....

The story of the first initiation in ISKCON is told in Hayagriva Prabhu's "Hare Krishna Explosion" book. There he relates, as Abhiram said, that Srila Prabhupada told them after giving them their name and their beads, "Now you must chant 64 rounds daily."

The devotees,shocked, immediately protested: "But Srila Prabhupada, that's not possible!" After a moment of this Srila Prabhupada said: "OK then, you must chant 32 rounds minimum." The devotees continued to protest, so Srila Prabhupada said: "Alright then, 16 rounds, absolute minimum!"

well, hi yes i just thought it was settled for the west, earlier by His Guru Maharaja´s order.. how he come to be so mercyfll representation of the Lord.

still, freat devotees are not fixed up in chanting this minumum... Hare Krsna, so the head line was chant and be happy, i guess ?

none cause can try nor say or even try and neglect, this is absolute minimum then thus, and still continues to be, now, inside this he established the ISKCON ?

actually that was ANUKAMPA for soul like us,from srila prabhupada.
other then that(not by srila prabhupad but...) 16names of mantra x16 roundx108=27648 names of KRISHNA.Healthy human can breath appx.25000 to 27000 time a day so we remember krishna every breath if we are attentive.practice for death moment..abhyasen tu kauntey........
