So much of my service is internet based these days. Often i wish this were not the case. I'm curious how much time other devotees spend staring at their monitors on average every day? and specifically why?

    :)

I begin in the morning but I do do my daily chores. It's maybe that it's the time for the Internet :P
I also go on the internet for Daily Darshan of Sri Sri Radha Gopinatha (of Radhadesh).
Also to check my mails. And sometimes I chat with friends. The Internet makes it possible for devotees of other countries to associate with each other. Daily I check this site maybe a dozen times if there is a new question asked., so I can learn something. I also have to stay in touch with our Pandavasena Forum site.
That's my daily planning on the internet. But I do get bored of it sometimes...
    :)

I live now in a remote area, w/o devotees, so it is my e-sadhu sanga, I guess.

    10 hours average.

I have a started a personal program of rehabilitation to get away from the computer. My service is also internet based, but in all honesty this entities (+mind and senses) can keep us hooked for hours... Now I spent more time with my kids..., chanting, reading or resting....

I reckon computers tend to take away the normal and natural human interaction... My kids are growing, and one day I won't be able to take time back and might regret not having been there enough for them in every way....

'Too long' will be my general answer to the original question

Yes, sometimes do get bored of it too.

I'm planning to move soon. I'm thinking of not installing a computer at all and just live with the books and japa (maybe just a phone needed for my job, otherwise it would fly also). I should be able to live without. No idea whether I will make it but it would be good.

If we can live without sex, which is so hard to overcome, why not overcome the Internet (if we don't really need it in Krsna's service)?

Actually we sometimes need it for Sadhu sanga like this site which is created to do that. Some devotees on this site are from India and others from America and from Spain and I am from Holland. And still we can have Sadhu sanga. I am learning a lot from this site and am very happy to get this oppurtunity and mercy of the Lord to do this. And I like to communicate with other devotees, what could be better. The only thing what devotees talk about here is: how is your school? or how is life treating you? You can't have any Sadhu sanga with them because they don't let you.
