well, I mean laundering money, avoiding taxes, keeping the money from lost+found wallets, having a blind eye on illegal activities performed by some devotees, ..
all in the name of "the karmis are in ignorance" "advancing the preaching", not disturbing the newcomers, etc

Yes, I have seen that mentality too. Feeling superior to karmis because we have the highest philosophy therefore we are higher than them. Thinking that evertything belongs to Krsna therefore I can take it (steal it) because it is for his service.

    Not good.

so what about when Krishna told Yudhisthira to lie in the battle of Kurukshetra and other instances like this?

ok, so if Krsna tells you directly then you can do it. :)
Otherwise it seems to me that you are interfering with Krsna´s plan for that particular person.

Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura recommends that we earn an honest living and peacefully develop our Krishna Consciousness. it does seem that being a basically honest person is a preemptive way to avoid the hassles that come with dishonest living. Krishna looks after us - we don't need to lie, cheat and steal.
