    and what would make you pay for it?
    Maybe if it were 20$ only? 10$?

    i'm using the old DOS-version of vedabase, and when i want to look up something that's not included i use other devotees' computers. the BBT doesn't sanction that, but i feel only a little bad about it, since it's so outdated.

    i'd purchase the full version if:

    -- i had the money available (might happen some time);
    --i was sure i could transfer it from one to another computer without problems;
    --could use it on linux without difficulty (wine & crossover needs pretty high-end hardware to run smoothly, isn't it?)

    ys phani.
  1.
    I got Vedabase but for free. From a prabhuji. :)

    The search is nice and all that but I see it too outdated.
    For now I use vedabase.net which is fine for me. For the rest that is not there I just export what I need and read it afterwards.

    I also think vedabase should be free.

    Vedabase.net is also great. I got Vedabase 2003, which when you copy 'n paste a text from it the accents come out pretty weird.

    i'd be happy if it was free, but SP's books aren't free, either - becuse it costs money to print them. it costs money to create & maintain vedabase, too.

    if you're connected with any ISKCON community you don't have problems reading SP's books or using vedabase; i never had, at least. if you want a book or vedabase installation to carry home, why not pay for it?

    Lets face facts, the Vedabase is only cheap now because of the mercy of the brothers Gargamuni & Brahmananda that the ISKCON authorities have blacklisted.

    When ITV and Archives were selling Vedabase and Prabhupada videos for hundreds of dollars, these two just started selling them on the cheap, super cheap. Gargamuni prabhu told me he asked devotees in ITV to sell VCD's, but ITV told them there is no market. So Gargamuni just started selling them anyway. Of course Gargamuni & Brahmanda will pirate anything that anyone produces, that is another problem.

    Archives did a big service of compiling and transcribing Shrila Prabhupada's writings, so does that mean they should charge hundreds of dollars for it now? I don't know the current price because I just grabbed one from somewhere but you can get it cheaper pirated and I know they are selling LOTS.

    If we count all the service the book distributors did we should sell the books for 1 million dollar a piece. Vaishya mentality in service ruins everything.

    Books should be bought cause there is a printing handling etc cost, everything digital should be free cause apart from the initial effort to create the first copy (which well could be considered just devotional service, not a kind of materially rewarded job), you only have to download same copy again and again and you are away.

    And, yes I have a 2 "pirated" Vedabase, Spanish and English.

    Someone offered me the original vedabase as a gift but i didnt take it since I already had the pirate one.
    I also wish vedabase.net had a nice search or at least any kind of search.
