In India, people have used Tulsi leaves since a long time ago as medicine. Recently a devotee complained about ayurvedic medicine companies killing the Tulsi plant to manufacture medicines. Is it okay if they just plucked out the leaves and used them to make their medicines? (Or, if they used the stem also after her natural death)?

What is the standard for offering tulasi leaves to Krishna? Does He like dried tulasi leaves if there aren't any fresh ones? Where do you draw the line? Does He like black or even worse tulasi leaves? Are the "dead" tulasi going to be burned in a sacred fire anyway?

I seem to remember something about eating two tulasi leaves a day to cure something. They could be offered to Krishna, the two leaves a day, and then taken. Similarly neem twigs are good for brushing teeth with, but I wouldn't want to chop a whole tree down to make a couple of cases of toothpaste with since it is a sacred tree.

If it is a genuine ayurvedic procedure the company is using it must include offering the leaves to Krishna, doesn't it?
  1.
Fresh Tulasi leaves and manjaris are best for offering to Krsna.

If you want Tulasi for medicinal use ask in your local temple for prasadam Tulasi leaves and manjaris - otherwise it is not a good thing to use Tulasi as a medicine. I have several big Tulasis and offer a lot of leaves and manjaris to my Deities. In some temples they should have ample Tulasi prasadam available.

"Never use Tulasi leaves or flowers to make teas or juices, even after they've been offered to Krsna. It is a great offense to cook or heat Tulasi, or to use her for mundane purposes, such as medicines and ointments."

BTG #27-01, 1993, article "Worshiping Tulasi Devi".

    It starts with this sentence:

"The following list was compiled from scriptures and from Srila Prabhupada's instructions."

I couldn't find any similar quote in HBV.
