Bhaktivedanta Vedabase on Linux ?
  • Dear all Hare Krsna.
I'm trying to install Bhaktivedanta Vedabase on Linux (PCLinuxOS) through Wine, but to no success...
Maybe some of the respected devotees already has some experience with the issue?
    Thank you very much.
  • You might want to try Virtual Box...it runs any windows software flawlessly:

  • Thank you Rasa... but... I understand that I need to install Windows (which I do not have) in that Virtual machine.
  • Did anyone tried installing BV in ReactOS?

  • Hari Hari !

Well... dear devotees, by the mercy of Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga the installation was successful. It went through Wine. If somebody is interested I can share the experience.
  • yes please, tell us what you did.
  • That would be nice to know how to install VB on lunix especially how fonts work (or not). On Vista you need to be manually installing the fonts.
  • Virtual box is easily installed on Ubuntu and using Windows XP...fonts install as normal in Windows XP.

  • can you share your installation process through Wine, nama?
  • I also heard that you can install Vedabase without installing windows or parallels using Crossover (PC or MAC)

which is a commercial version of Wine.
  • Hare Krsna.

Here is what worked for me.

I'm running my PC with PCLinuxOS. Then I installed Wine and through Wine (following general instructions) I Installed Vedabase. That's it. Apart from that, one small hint. In Wine there is a possibility to change which Windows to use (98, 2000,...). First I tried with 2000 and could not install Vedabase. When I changed to 98 the Vedabase was installed without difficulty.

    All the best!
  • Linux is the r0xx0r! I am gonna try installing Vedabase with Wine. Right now I'm running it in Virtual Box using the integration mode.

Howdy, Stranger!
