How is harmonium a classic? Harmonium was invented in Paris by Alexander Franco Debain in 19th century and was introduced by the Christian missionaries in India.

    ccd:
Srila Prabhupada allowed anything at the beginning, just take a look, he was alone. I am talking about a temple, organized harinam with devotees, with trumpets and all. That is my question.

I guess it can not be an universal rule, in some places it should be discouraged, but too many rules spoil it too. Unless people are you disciples, who are you to make rules? I do not know if that answers your q

I don't know about on harinam but Srila Prabhupada showed appreciate in one devotee's trumpet ability in this letter excerpt:

"There is a Mr. Ivan Levine in the Montreal temple who is, I understand an expert trumpeteer. He may be interested in joining you in London with his wife, after their initiation probably, to join you in your musical activities in London. I have advised him to write to you about this." Letter to: Mukunda—Los Angeles 25 January, 1969 69-01-25

There was a man who came to the Temple and played the trumpet and it was great!!!! I really enjoyed it!!!! I think it would be very nice to have a trumpet player on harinam too.

I believe SP's instructions about playing other instruments was that as long as the instrument does not take away one's attention from the Holy names...makes sense to me, considering this is the whole point of Harinama. I know there are quotes about this...anyone?
