    ..How does the disciplic succession actually work....since there appears to be gaps.....or they did not take diksa from their previous guru in the line?

    Strictly speaking it is not siksa and not diksa. It is a line of acaryas, or liberated souls - our process is to follow the footsteps of acaryas.

    Prabhupada would call it Acarya Parampara.
